California Building Standards Commission evaluates revised Environmental Impact Report that may put PEX back on the path to reinstatement into the state plumbing code.

Despite the recent repeal of crosslinked polyethylene (PEX) tubing from the California Plumbing Code, homebuilders, plumbing contractors and consumers should be heartened to know that Uponor will continue its efforts to fully reinstate PEX in the code.

Following the 45-day comment period, which ended July 19, the California Building Standards Commission (CBSC) is evaluating a revised Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and will presumably put PEX back on the path to reinstatement into the state plumbing code.

“We are committed to giving Californians the right to choose the plumbing product that is best for them and their applications,” says Rich Houle, associate product manager, Uponor Commercial Plumbing. “We are confident our efforts, coupled with those of the CBSC and the Plastic Pipe and Fittings Association, will restore PEX to the state code in the near future.”

• The Porcher® Tetsu® Slim Freestanding Bathtub and the Tetsu Wide-Deck embody a graceful and simple look reminiscent of Japanese aesthetics.

• The classically detailed Archive is inspired by the sculptural lines of 1920s English designs.

• The handsomely traditional Lutezia inflects vintage style with contemporary flair.

Each new tub coordinates with its respective suite of products for a distinctive, fully integrated bathroom design.

Uponor recently welcomed approximately 60 consulting and specifying engineers from across North America to its first-ever Radiant Cooling Engineering Summit: a day and a half of lectures and discussions, a product exposition and even actual project tours, all focused on this rapidly growing, energy-saving technology for commercial buildings.

“Since 2005, radiant heating and cooling system specifications have risen 36 percent, so that approximately 8.5 percent of all new commercial construction is now specified with this technology,” said summit program host Dan Sullivan, LEED® AP, CEM, Uponor senior product manager-commercial radiant business. “By 2013, that fraction is projected to rise to around 13 percent.”

Held April 8 and 9 at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, the Radiant Cooling Engineering Summit took place concurrently with the 2010 Uponor Convention, which itself drew a record 688 attendees—mainly plumbing and mechanical contractors, as well as distributors and independent sales agents.
